Review of Elaine’s Asian Bistro (8 Bond Street)

Review of Elaine’s Asian Bistro (8 Bond Street)

Elaine’s Asian Bistro has, without question, the most beautiful interior design of any Great Neck restaurant. Even the exterior is beautiful, a bright red awning that leads you down a brick alleyway to the restaurant entrance. Once inside, there’s a reception area, followed by a bar and lounge area. The bar is dimly lit with bright neon lights shifting from red to green. The lounge is set into the wall, with a row of comfy sofas. I really like how the bar area is set apart from the restaurant area; this way bar patrons don’t distub the restaurant guests, and vice-versa. As for the restaurant itself, it’s divided into two portions, an upper seating area… …and a lower area that holds more seating and the sushi bar. It looks like a great place for groups; on the night we went there were two parties of at least 10 people. Unlike other restaurants, we weren’t disturbed; we still could have a romantic dinner for two. As is my custom, I asked the server what the most popular dishes were. Without skipping a beat, he rattled three dishes off: the mongolian beef, the shrimp rangoons, and the pad thai. So, we decided…

Review of Lola (113A Middle Neck Road, Great Neck)

Review of Lola (113A Middle Neck Road, Great Neck)

Lola The fanciest restaurant in Great Neck If you’re in the mood for the kind of fancy food that you usually find in high-end Manhattan restaurants, definitely check out Lola. The food is beautifully prepared and exquisite tasting. Although the fill up, be prepared for a Manhattan-esque price tag as well. Rating by steve: 4.5 stars If you’re in the mood for fancy, frou-frou food of the kind you’d find in Manhattan’s top restaurants, your choice in Great Neck is Lola. Lola was founded by Chef Michael Gignor, who also co-founded Hudson Valley Foie Gras, a world reknowned distributor of foie gras to fine restaurants everywhere. Gignor opened Mediterranean restaurant TLV in 2007, and in 2009 he opened Lola, which specializes in new American cuisine. To go to Lola, you need to plan carefully, as their hours and menu can be a bit confusing. Here’s the schedule: Lunch: Tuesday through Friday from 12:00p to 3:00p (Tapas menu) Dinner: Tuesday from 5:30p to 10:00p (Tapas menu) Wednesday from 5:30p to 10:00p Thursday from 5:30p to 11:00p Friday from 5:30p to 11:00p Saturday from 5:30p to 11:00p Sunday from 4:00p to 10:00p (Tapas menu) For those of you not familiar with Tapas,…

Review of Wild Ginger (48 Great Neck Road, Great Neck)

Review of Wild Ginger (48 Great Neck Road, Great Neck)

Wild Ginger The best Asian Fusion in Great Neck While not quite at the same level as it was years ago when it was one of the pioneers in the Asian Fusion genre, Wild Ginger can still be considered one of the nicer, more upscale restaurants in Great Neck with decent service and excellent food. Rating by steve: 4.0 stars Update 8/28/2012 Lisa and I have been back to Wild Ginger a couple times since the original review was written, partially because we enjoy the food there and partially because I’m addicted to buying deals on Groupon and Living Social, which Wild Ginger seems to be a regular part of. When I do the math in my head it’s actually a pretty good business move on their part, as I tend to order appetizers and drinks to the point where my discount from the Groupon is much less in reality than what it is in my head (that’s the tricky thing with Groupons–it’s only a 50% discount if you order exactly $30 of food–order $50 and it becomes a 30% discount, order $60 and it becomes a 25% discount, and so on. In any case, Groupon or no Groupon, Wild…
