Welcome to Great Neck Eats! Everyone knows that some of the best restaurants in the world are in Manhattan. But let’s face it, there are times when you just don’t want to drag yourself all the way to Manhattan. At $7.25 to $10 for a one-way LIRR ticket, you’re talking about upwards of $80 to get to the City for a family of four. And driving is even worse given the cost of gas, tolls, and parking. In recent years, Great Neck’s restaurant scene has blossomed. In a radius of only 1.4 square miles sit some spectacular restaurants that rival some of Manhattan’s best (and in some cases, Manhattan restaurateurs have even planted second branches of their New York City restaurants here). I’ve found lately that it’s harder and harder to trust review sites like Google and Yelp. In some cases, reviews are overly harsh, perhaps the result of a disgruntled customer with an axe to grind (I notice that many of the reviews of restaurant with bars in them are loaded with commentary on the attitudes of bartenders or the taste of drinks, neither of which are particularly relevant to good eats). In other cases, reviews are far too rosy, leading me…
