Sake 68 is Here – Score a $20 Gift Certificate

Things are looking up in Great Neck. I walked by the BareBurger on Middle Neck Road and it looks like they’re opening real soon. In the meantime, this came as a bit of a surprise, but Sake 68 (also on Middle Neck Road) opened on May 4. And remember how I posted a few weeks ago that the first 20 Facebook Likes would get $20 gift certificate? From the sign in their window, it looks like they upped it to the first 100. Since they’re only up to 40 right now, here’s your chance to get a nice Andrew Jackson to apply towards some sushi or sake. I really like their style in using social media to get the word out, so I figured I’d help them out by posting here. To get your certificate, just “Like” them and show the Like to the manager on your smartphone when you go in. I’ll likely be visiting in the coming weeks and will of course give you my unbiased review.

juliebelle's in great neck

Lots of culinary news to report this week in Great Neck Plaza. While walking up and down Middle Neck Road, I’m still saddened to see the closed storefront of Bruce’s, still empty and dark, and still sad to see that great promising restaurant Miraku empty as well. I was shocked to see that now Jean Marie Patisserie and Bistro has shut its doors as well. I just saw Kasi’s post on our Facebook page that this happened over a month ago–and Juliebelle’s has bitten the dust as well. It’s sad, because these aren’t bad restaurants that are closing. On the…

La Gioconda Summary goes here. Rating by steve: 4 stars of 5 Walking into La Gioconda, we were immediately greeted at the door. The restaurant itself is small and intimate, and very, very dark. The decor was very nice; we went around Christmastime and holiday lights decorated the branches. It was so dark I could hardly make out the pictures, but I could see they were old Italian portraits and scenes. The furniture and decor were a bit old fashioned, but seemed to fit. I was expecting a romantic experience with my wife, but the mood was slightly shattered by…

Say it ain’t so…Miraku is closed :(

Miraku was one of the more exciting restaurants to hit Great Neck in a while. So much so that it made it to #4 of our Top 10 List of Great Neck eateries. As I wrote in my review, it boasted some of the freshest sushi in town, as well some really innovative tapas. Sadly, as I was driving down Middle Neck Road, I saw a FOR RENT sign in the window. Sure enough, I looked it up on Newsday.com and they confirmed that Miraku has closed its doors for good. Sadly, Great Neck seems to be becoming a more…

Today’s Groupon is to Turquoise Seafood Restaurant. It’s a good one, so jump on it quick! I previously reviewed Turquoise back when it was across from the Great Neck train station. Since then, it’s moved to larger, brighter and much more impressive looking digs on Middle Neck Road. I’ve been wanting to go back to see if things have changed, and this Groupon will give me the perfect excuse to go again The deal is for $49 for $100 worth of of dinner for two, or $95 for $200 worth of dinner for four. While $100 for a dinner for…
